24 species of Frankincense (Boswellia) are found in drylands of 23 countries from West Africa to India. The Frankincense Resource Portal aims to provide up-to-date information on taxonomy, distribution, identification and conservation status of all Boswellia taxa to support conservation and the sustainable use of the genus.
The information in this resource was generated from historical records and publications. In particular Mats Thulin’s Monograph - The Genus Boswellia (Symbolae Botanicae Upsalienses 39: 1-149 (2020)), as well as from extensive recent surveys by project teams in Boswellia range states.
The portal functionality has been shaped by the input of individuals from academia, Government, NGOs, CITES Authorities and commercial entities. It continues to be developed and will be regularly updated in response to new information. A comprehensive list of publications and contributors will be added soon.
